HDR

March 22nd, 2009

It is spring and the trees are starting to bud and leaf out. It was an interesting day with strange lighting and lots of wind. I decided to try a little HDR photos. Here are two of my attempts.

This one also goes with my series of trash in nature. It is terrible how people have left their trash everywhere destroying our natural areas with filth.

New Orleans

February 22nd, 2009

I journeyed to New Orleans for my company a few weeks ago. I had a little time to wander the streets and take some photographs. The streets, and people were fascinating. I hope to return someday. While I was there, I used my Petri camera with a f-1.8 lens from the 1960s and fuji superia 400 film to make a few pictures. Below is a sample. You can see the page here.

Night shot

I have this old Petri camera that I’ve been playing with. My Mom and Dad found it at a garage sale. It a great camera from the 1960s. Here’s a low light picture of downtown Lawrence.

The changing face of newspapers

January 29th, 2009

I used to be a newspaper photojournalist and it is very sad to continually see the closing of newspapers, or the laying off of staff. I left the profession to pursure the web and computer world, but I’m still surprised to see how quickly the demise of print publications has happened.

An article in the PDN pulse talked about yet another closing and how the printing of the paper is slated to be outsourced. The heart beat of the presses gearing up will be replaced with the quiet publishing of web pages. It is sad to see an institution that has been around for so long change so quickly, but I’m hopeful of what the future will bring. There is more information on the web than you could have found in the physical confines of a library and there are many more ways of getting the main stream news and discovering the obscure news.

May it be the second phase of the information era.

Winter sunsets

January 13th, 2009

We have been having some georgous sunsets around here. This is what it looked like from my front yard this evening.

Happy Holidays!

Christmas parade

December 7th, 2008

We went to the Christmas parade in downtown Lawrence and had a lot of fun. My friend lives where they were lining up, so we could just hang out and take pictures of the animals and the people around there. Here are a couple of pictures. I’ll add more soon.

Snow

November 30th, 2008

This morning we woke to a blanket of snow. It sounds like I should be writing this at Christmas, not Thanksgiving. Oh well, it’s pretty! I guess everyone will be in the holiday spirit now. So hope you all enjoy shopping for your families. My dogs weren’t for sure about the snow.

This blog has moved, it might look a little different. I’m still working out the bugs. Thanks for viewing.

Fall Leaves

October 26th, 2008

We went for a drive today to see if there were any leaves changing. They weren’t as far along as I had hoped. But we found a country road that had some leaves changing with some nice lighting. Here’s a picture.
